Why do yoga?

I’ve nearly finished the practical part of my yoga teacher training and it has been all kinds of amazing – I really don’t want it to end! Sadly I’ve been so busy that I haven’t written nearly as much as I had hoped to here about it!  But don’t worry I have got several Blog posts on my list – I’ve just got lots of lesson plans to do first!

So as a short post I thought that I would share this lovely quote by Rachel Brathen AKA Yoga Girl which was shared to our group of yogis by Henry one of our fellow teacher trainees. It really does sum up very well what yoga is all about – doing this course certainly has shifted my focus in a big way and I am loving where this journey is taking me!

The yoga pose is not the goal.
Becoming flexible is not the goal.
Standing on your hands is not the goal.
The goal is to create space where you were once stuck.
To unveil the layers of protection you’ve built around your heart.
To appreciate your body and become aware of the mind and the noise it creates.
To make peace with who you are.
The goal is to love, well… You.
Come to your yoga mat to feel; not to accomplish.
Shift your focus and your heart will grow.

PS But I did stand on my hands and my head at the weekend – but that is another story!
